The Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Alabi Bliss Oshionogue, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering inclusivity through the promotion of sporting activities within the locality.

Rt. Hon. Oshionogue made this statement at the Public Field in Igarra, when he attended the opening ceremony of the 2025 Inter-Schools Football Competition, organized by the Igarra Development Association (IDA), to mark the official kick-off of the tournament in the Local Government Area.

He noted that education and sports are critical sectors that have received priority attention under his leadership in the past nine months, in line with the practical governance initiative of Senator Monday Okpebholo’s ‘SHINE’ Agenda.

“I must commend IDA for demonstrating capacity over the years in championing an Akoko-Edo built on prosperity and sustainable development. Your sponsorship of this year’s inter-schools competition is another milestone and a landmark achievement added to your litany of projects and partnerships with the local council to foster social cohesion,” he stated.

In his remarks, the President of IDA, Dr. Yaya Dele, appreciated the Council Chairman for gracing the event with his team, commending his developmental strides across the Local Government Area within a short period in office.

He also called for continued synergy between the Association and the Local Government Council to drive the needed development in the area.
