The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reshuffled the leadership of its 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee, replacing Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma with former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari as chairman.
In the new arrangement announced by the party, Governor Uzodimma has been redeployed to serve as treasurer of the committee.
The APC also expanded the committee’s membership from the initial 73 to 90 members, a move it described as necessary to accommodate more critical stakeholders and ensure broader representation.
Among the newly added members is Senator Barry Mpigi (Rivers East) and several other prominent party chieftains.
In a statement explaining the changes, the APC said the reconstitution of the committee was carried out to reflect “zoning considerations and other strategic exigencies” ahead of the national convention scheduled for 2026.
The adjustments come as the party prepares for what is expected to be a major political stock-taking exercise that will set the tone for its leadership structure and direction going into the second half of President Bola Tinubu’s first term.
The appointment of Masari — a veteran politician and former two-term governor — is seen by party insiders as a strategic move to bring experienced, calming leadership to the planning process of the convention.
