Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appealed to President Bola Tinubu for urgent federal assistance in addressing escalating security threats in parts of the state.

The governor made the request during a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, where he outlined his administration’s top priorities: bolstering security, advancing major infrastructure initiatives, and deepening collaboration between Kano and the Federal Government.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the discussions centered on the worsening insecurity plaguing several local government areas. Governor Yusuf specifically drew the President’s attention to a recent horrific incident in which a housewife and her children were killed, describing it as a stark reminder of the urgent need for intensified action to safeguard lives and property.

The governor emphasized the valuable contributions of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in supporting conventional security forces and called for enhanced coordination with federal agencies to more effectively combat the threats.

On the development front, Yusuf highlighted ongoing mega infrastructure projects in the state and commended the Federal Government’s intervention on the Wujuwuju Road as a vital boost to economic activity and employment opportunities in Kano.

In response, President Tinubu reassured the governor of the Federal Government’s full commitment to partnering with Kano State to confront insecurity head-on and promote sustainable growth and development.

The meeting underscores efforts to align state and federal priorities amid persistent banditry and communal challenges in northern Nigeria.
