“Lawal in Desperation Mode: PDP Crumbles in Zamfara, Triggering Tinubu Meeting Amid Re-election Fears and Admin Woes.”

Governor Dauda Lawal is reportedly set to meet with President Bola Tinubu tomorrow amid growing fears over his re-election prospects, following a wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Just today, Lawal lost another member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Hon. Faru, who represents Maradun II Constituency, to the APC. This latest defection comes barely a week after another PDP candidate—whom Lawal had reportedly supported with over ₦4 billion during a by-election—also decamped to the APC, citing poor governance and widespread public dissatisfaction with the governor’s leadership.

The governor now faces mounting opposition within the state assembly, where the APC already holds 13 out of 24 seats. Reports suggest that an additional seven lawmakers are preparing to join the APC, a move that could leave the governor with only four loyal members and raise the prospect of impeachment.

Sources disclosed that, amid this escalating political tension, Governor Lawal met with several state assembly members yesterday to discuss the crisis. During the meeting, he reportedly expressed fears of losing his position, stating that even if he were to be removed, he had “international options” available.

Lawal was said to have mentioned owning properties in London, Dubai, the United States, and Germany, indicating that he could relocate to any of these countries if forced out of office.

The situation continues to fuel uncertainty in Zamfara’s political landscape, with observers noting that Lawal’s next steps—and his meeting with President Tinubu—could determine the trajectory of his political future.
