In a major boost to healthcare education and training in Edo North, the Edo State University Teaching Hospital (EDSUTH), Auchi, has secured full accreditation from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) to commence its Medical Laboratory Science Internship Program.

The accreditation officially authorizes EDSUTH to train graduates of Medical Laboratory Science, equipping them with practical, hands-on experience in modern diagnostic and laboratory practices under the supervision of certified professionals.

Speaking on the development, the Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD) of EDSUTH, Dr. Tijani Oseni, described the approval as “a remarkable milestone in the hospital’s continuous pursuit of excellence in healthcare delivery, training, and research.”

Dr. Oseni expressed deep appreciation to the Management of Edo State University, Uzairue, for its unwavering support and guidance, which he said have been instrumental to the hospital’s steady progress. He also lauded the efforts of the Laboratory Services Department and the entire EDSUTH workforce for their dedication and commitment to meeting the rigorous standards set by the MLSCN.

“This accreditation reflects the collective commitment, professionalism, and teamwork of our staff,” Dr. Oseni noted. “We remain focused on maintaining the highest standards in medical education, research, and service delivery in line with the vision of Edo State University to serve as a true centre of excellence.”

With this latest approval, EDSUTH joins the growing list of accredited teaching hospitals in Nigeria offering internship opportunities for young medical laboratory scientists which is a move that is expected to enhance capacity building, employment opportunities, and healthcare quality in the region.

The Head of Administration, Mr. Abdulsallam O. Mohammed, also commended the hospital’s management team and staff, reaffirming that EDSUTH will continue to uphold the values of professionalism, innovation, and service excellence in all its operations.

This accreditation is widely seen as a major step toward strengthening the hospital’s role as a leading medical training and research institution in Edo State and beyond.
